Queen in Exile by Donna Hatch - Countdown to Summer 2010

11 days left until the
first day of summer!

Donna Hatch's passion for writing began at age 8 she wrote her first short story. During her sophomore year in high school, she wrote her first full-length novel. Her writing has won or been nominated as a finalist in many writing contests including Golden Quill and SARA's Merrit. In between caring for six children, (7 counting her husband), her day job, and her many volunteer positions, she manages to carve out time to indulge in her writing obsession. A native of Arizona, she writes Regency Romance and Fantasy. And yes, all of her heroes are patterned after her husband of over 21 years, who continues to prove that there really is a happily ever after.

LDSWBR: What activities do you and/or your family participate in every summer? Do you have plans to try something or go somewhere new this year?

DONNA: Every summer, we have a family reunion -- often over the 4th of July weekend -- and this year is no exception. We also plan to have our annual family getaway in Mexico. We have a timeshare in Rocky Point and our children look forward to our trip every year.

I also plan to attend a writer's retreat where I do a lot of writing, plotting, brainstorming, and eat copious amounts of junk food with my awesome writer friends.

LDSWBR: Do you have a favorite summer food or drink? If so, are you willing to share the recipe?

DONNA: Favorite summer foods include taco salad and sub sandwiches and my favorite summer drink is freshly squeezed lemonade.

LDSWBR: What books are on your summer reading list?

DONNA: I plan to finish all the Georgette Heyer books.

LDSWBR: Thanks, Donna. Have a great summer!

Queen in Exile (Leatherwood Press; April 2010) by Donna Hatch is available for purchase at Deseret Book and Amazon. The Guise of a Gentleman by Donna Hatch (The Wild Rose Press; April 2010) is available in both ebook and print at Barnes & Noble, Amazon and The Rose Press.

Does your family hold regular family reunions? Do you get together yearly or is more hit-and-miss? What's the funniest thing that's ever happened at one of your family reunions?

  1. A Family reunion every year is hard with a big family. We try to get together though. I love Donna Hatch's books. They are amazing.

  2. I have picked up Queen in Exile to take on my summer vacation next month--one of four books I am taking. I am looking forward to reading it.

My family does not really have reunions. It makes me sad. I think I have attended one reunion in the last ten years. Maybe someone who has more regular reunions would be willing to adopt me.

  3. I just bought Queen in Exile through Brenda Novak's diabetes auction and can't wait for it to arrive!
We only do reunions when someone brave enough volunteers to spearhead them. Not often. At one years ago, I was looking around the pavilion of generations of MY descendants when someone approached my husband and told him he was obviously a cousin of his, because he looked just like the rest of the family- MY family.

  4. These books look really exciting, I'll have to check them out the next time I am at the bookstore. I have never been to a large family reunion before. Hopefully we can start doing them in the future.

  5. We always do a camping reunion.
One year a nephew brought a couch to camp and slept on it. A curious doe came around and sniffed him. He bolted up right and the deer nearly kicked him in the head before running off.

  6. Queen in Exile looks SO GOOD! We always do a camping reunion with my hubbies side. It's fun, but I would rather stay in a hotel.:) My family usually goes somewhere in a hotel...;) We aren't the best campers...

  7. Thanks everyone for stopping by. My husband's family is great about reunions, but mine only does them once in a while, usually when I organize it. (I'm the only girl) I'm with Chantele -- I'd rather stay in a hotel than camp.

  8. Family reunions are usually hit and miss with my family. Although we do tend to go with my aunts family camping in Island Park every July. I love it up there :)
