Michele Ashman Bell- Countdown to Christmas 2009

22 Days until Christmas!

Michele Ashman Bell is the author of 19 novels. Her most recent release, A Modest Proposal, is the first book in her Butterfly Box series. Michele's 20th & 21st books are being released this coming spring, including the second book in the Butterfly Box series, Hometown Girl, as well as a YA book called Summer in Paris.

A Modest Proposal is availabe at www.deseretbook.com, www.seagullbook.com, www.amazon.com, and LDS bookstores.

More about Michele: Michele Ashman Bell grew up in St. George, Utah. In fourth grade her teacher wrote on her report card that she had a tendency to daydream and would probably do well with creative writing. Her love for books and learning about people and places has helped her make her teacher's prediction come true. Michele is the author of many books and Christmas stories. She is married and is the mother of four children, and a grandma of one. Aside from supporting her children in all of their many activities, she loves to travel, do research for her books and eat chocolate.

Visit Michele on her website: www.micheleashmanbell.com and her blog: Michele Ashman Bell.

LDSWBR: What favorite holiday traditions do you and your family participate in every year? Will you be starting any new traditions this year?

MICHELE: Every Christmas Eve we watch a Christmas movie together as a family, either a new one at the theaters or a family favorite at home. We come home and the kids put all the presents under the tree (I keep them hidden up until this point). This totally gets them excited for Christmas morning. Then, before bed, the kids get to open one gift. It is usually a pair of pajamas. Finally, we get out the white Christmas stocking that hangs by the other stockings and pull out the cards we filled out the previous year. On these cards we've written what our gift to Christ will be for the year. We review how we've done through the year, then make out a new card with our gift for the upcoming year.

LDSWBR: What books are on your Christmas wish list?

MICHELE: Christmas for a Dollar by Gale Sears, In Search of the Christmas Spirit by President Monson, An Angel on Main Street by Kathi Oram Peterson

LDSWBR: What books do you plan on purchasing/have you purchased as gifts for loved ones this Christmas? (Unless sharing would ruin the surprise!)

MICHELE: I am giving Christmas for a Dollar to my neighbors and visiting
teaching ladies this year. It is such a special story. I also will give out copies of An Angel on Main Street.

LDSWBR: Sounds like you're a very nice neighbor, Michele. Thanks!

I love the idea of the white stocking and giving gifts to Jesus Christ for the year. Does anyone do something similar to this?

  2. My family does the white stocking tradition. We have done it for a few years now. I've never heard of A Modest Proposal, but it sounds interesting.

  3. We are trying the white stocking idea this year. My 6 yr old told me he knows why we have Christmas. "Why?" I asked. "So we can have hot cocoa."

  4. Taffy, that is so funny! I have to agree though, having hot cocoa is a fun part of Christmas time. ;)

  5. This white stocking sounds like a lovely tradition! We have not done that. We did let the kids open the one gift on Christmas eve and yes it was pajamas!

  6. We are trying something new with choosing a person and serving them for a week like Jesus would.
